Hillel Atlantic’s Aaron Greenspan Named a Canadian Superstar Israel Advocate by TheJ.ca

Aaron is a third-year Bachelor of Management (Marketing) student from Toronto, attending Dalhousie University in Halifax. He is a StandWithUs Canada Emerson Fellow (2020-21), and an executive board member of Hillel Atlantic Canada. He was Hillel Atlantic Canada’s Director of Communications, helping with Shabbat dinners, Birthright, and Jewish engagement. His Israeli activism began out of necessity. In his first year, there was a lack of Jews on the east coast speaking out against faulty Israel narratives, BDS, and antisemitism. He knew he had to make serious changes. He remembers feeling awkward when he first went to university, discovering no one knew what the Holocaust was. Frequently ridiculed for wearing a kippah on High Holy Days, professors told Aaron to be quiet for speaking out for Israel. It did not stop him from being proud of who he is, and speaking out, tabling, or using his voice on social media to empower change. He has hosted many Jewish/Israeli student-related events on campus, and off-campus, including Holocaust Education Week, Israel-themed dinners, and more.
