Deborah’s Not-Quite-A-Sing-Along Song: NaKh & Nosh Reads Judges Chapter 5
Deborah’s Not-Quite-A-Sing-Along Song: NaKh & Nosh Reads Judges Chapter 5
Shabbat, December 15th at 12:00-1:30 pm.
The prophet Devorah gets credit for authoring one of the oldest poems in the whole Bible. She congratulates certain tribes on a job well done and tells some others that they’ve been lazy bums. The specific images in the poem might be a little lost on us these days, and, for some reason, the rabbis think that Devorah is talking about Mount Sinai in the middle of this military moment. Come join Rabbi Rank’s table at Kiddush for a little NaKh (the final two thirds of the Hebrew Bible) and a little nosh (“senseless eating” in Yiddish) to discover why this strange text is important to Jewish history.
