Shaar Shalom and Beth Israel Gift Shops Combined Channukah Sale

The Shaar Shalom Chanukkah Fair is pleased to announce an addition to the book sale in honour of our sorely-missed friend and congregant, Stacey Schwartz. Please visit our table at the fair.

Dr. Stacey Schwartz, a long-time member of the Shaar Shalom community, passed away in September 2013 after a short but intense struggle with cancer at age 49. A much-loved pediatrician in Halifax, Stacey was a voracious reader, with a life-long love for books, children and medicine. Last year, her dynamic book club launched Stacey’s Stories, a charitable initiative to donate new books to the IWK Health Centre’s Child Life department.

 The Stacey’s Stories project collects new books purchased through Woozles Children’s Bookstore in Halifax.  Each donated book contains a Stacey’s Stories decal, and is presented in her memory to the IWK for long-term patients. To date, more than 300 books have been donated in Stacey’s memory.
