A collection of eleven tales set in a rural Czech village, these stories feature the wise and wonderful Mendel Rosenbusch, a village elder who lives in a small house behind the synagogue and uses his magic invisibility to teach children & adults moral behavior and that there is virtue in doing the right thing:
be compassionate, be generous, & always repay kindness.
Originally published in German in 1929, the author, Ilse Weber was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944 with her 10 year old son.
A copy of this book was discovered in Chile in 1998 and has now been translated & illustrated.
