The services will begin at 9:00 am with the Dairy Kiddush to follow. The featured special will be Nika Booker-Grandea and Matthew Perkins-McVey who will speak at Kiddush on “Finding G-d @ Dal”

Thursday, June 1st

The services will begin at 9:00 am with the Cheescake Buffet to follow. The featured special will be Dr. Jason Brown who will speak at Kiddush on “The Games That People (and G-d) Play”

 

Speaker Bios

Matthew Perkins-McVey:

Matthew is a PhD student at Dalhousie University in Interdisciplinary Studies, combining the History of Psychology and Neuroscience, the Philosophy of Science and German Studies. He is also an instructor at Dalhousie University with a focus on teaching German language courses. He has a strong background in continental philosophy and has, throughout the exploration of different paths of thought and reasoning, found a spiritual connection that continues to flourish. It is the connection of being in the world and the suspension of disbelief that has brought him to this path in his life. He lives with his wife, Nika, their German Shepherd and two cats making for a lively family.

Nika Booker-Grandea:

Nika is currently a law student at Dalhousie University which was not inspired by the desire to become a lawyer, but by the desire to understand the complexities of Canadian law and apply them in greater policy contexts. She is passionate about helping others, which is why she pursued a degree in Psychology. She has had a long spiritual journey and is thankful for everything she has learned along that journey. It is her goal to surround herself with a variety of perspectives and find beauty in the world, even when it is hidden in unusual places.

Jason Brown:

Jason is a professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Dalhousie University. His work that used mathematics to uncover mysteries surrounding the music of the Beatles has garnered worldwide attention, including national and international newspapers, CBC, BBC and NPR radio, the Daily Planet TV show, Guitar Player magazine, and the web sites ofWired and the Wall Street Journal. He is also the author of a number of books, includingOur Days Are Numbered: How Mathematics Orders Our Lives(Random House), and has written many articles on the role that mathematics plays in everyday life.
